This journey moves through Rwanda’s contrasting landscapes — from the dense, living canopy of Nyungwe Forest to the open calm of Lake Kivu. It is designed as a quieter, more layered experience, combining active forest exploration with time to slow down along the water.
In Nyungwe, chimpanzee tracking offers a more dynamic encounter than gorilla trekking. The forest is active and constantly shifting, with movement happening quickly through the trees. Treks begin early, following calls and signs deeper into the forest, where encounters are energetic and less predictable. Beyond chimpanzees, Nyungwe is one of Africa’s oldest rainforests, rich in biodiversity and shaped by sound, density, and elevation.
The journey then transitions to Lake Kivu, where the pace changes entirely. Open water, softer light, and a more relaxed setting allow time to rest after trekking. Whether exploring the lakeshore or simply slowing the rhythm of travel, this part of the itinerary creates balance within the overall experience.
Accommodation throughout is selected for comfort, location, and atmosphere, ensuring proximity to key areas while maintaining a sense of privacy. This itinerary is ideal for travellers seeking a combination of active exploration and quiet retreat, within one of East Africa’s most refined destinations.
